Zirakpur: Elderly man killed as concrete pole crashes onto parked car
Zirakpur, Nov. 23 -- A 66-year-old man was killed after a concrete pole collapsed on the car he was sitting in while waiting for his grandchild's school bus, on VIP Road, Zirakpur, on Wednesday.
According to police, the pole came down when a passing truck got entangled in the overhead electric wires, causing the wires to tighten and pull the pole down. The pole fell directly on the parked vehicle, leaving the victim Khush Jindal and his two family members with no time to react, eyewitnesses said. They were rushed to a nearby hospital but Jindal succumbed to his injuries, while the other two family members received only minor injuries. Police have launched an inquiry to identify the truck and determine how the wires got entangled. The electricity department reached the spot shortly after the accident to remove the damaged pole and cables.
Zirakpur Ward 26 councillor Navjot said, "Many stretches have wires hanging at low heights and poles that need inspection. The system must be checked on priority to prevent such incidents," he said.
Police stated that action will be taken based on the family's statement. The body will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem....
