Zirakpur man succumbs to injuries 8 days after hit-and-run
Mohali, Nov. 16 -- A 29-year-old man who suffered injuries in an accident near Chimney Heights, Dyalpur, on November 6, died during treatment at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) on Friday.
The deceased, Pradip Singh, worked in a private company and was returning home around 6 am when the incident occurred. His father, Gurbachan Singh, 55, who was out for his morning walk, witnessed the collision.
According to the family, Pradip was just a few metres from their home when a car bearing registration number HR40A9092 came from the Dyalpur side and hit his two-wheeler. The impact caused serious injuries. The driver stopped momentarily but drove away after noticing people gathering at the spot.
The victim's father rushed him to PGIMER in his private vehicle. Pradip remained under treatment for eight days but did not recover. He is survived by his wife and a four-year-old daughter.
Speaking about the incident, his father said, "I saw the car hit my son and I immediately took him to the hospital. We hoped he would recover, but he could not survive. We want the driver to be arrested."
Investigating officer Dharam Raj said the police have identified the vehicle involved in the accident. "The car has been traced, but the accused driver is yet to be arrested. Efforts are on to nab him," he said.
A case has been registered under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving), 125A/B (act endangering life or personal safety of humans), 324(4) (mischief) and 106 (death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
