Yudh Nashian Virudh: Police arrest 83 drug smugglers in 253 raids
Chandigarh, Nov. 5 -- Punjab Police conducted raids at 253 locations across the state on Tuesday under the ongoing campaign 'Yudh Nashian Virudh', resulting in the arrest of 83 drug smugglers and the registration of 66 FIRs, officials said.
Since the launch of the campaign, a total of 35,225 drug smugglers have been apprehended, according to an official spokesperson. During the raids, authorities recovered 2.02 kg of heroin, 2 quintals of poppy husk, 1,015 intoxicant pills, and Rs 34,230 in cash from the possession of the arrested smugglers.
The operation involved over 100 police teams with more than 800 personnel, supervised by 50 gazetted officers. Police also checked 265 suspicious persons during the day-long drive.
The Yudh Nashian Virudh was launched in March this year to make Punjab a drug-free state.The second phase of the campaign was rolled out in August, aiming for greater public participation through the formation of defence committees in rural and urban areas.HTC...
