Mohali, Dec. 27 -- Police have registered a case in connection with a fraud committed in 2016, in which a woman was allegedly cheated on the pretext of being sent abroad on a work permit. The victim is a resident of Una district in Himachal Pradesh. According to the police, the woman had come across an advertisement related to overseas employment in a newspaper in 2016. After contacting the number mentioned in the advertisement, representatives of a firm named World Keys Overseas called her to their office and assured her of arranging a work permit and job abroad. Believing the assurances, she paid a total amount of Rs.3.2 lakh to the firm. However, police said the accused neither sent her abroad nor returned the money despite repeated requests. After waiting for several years, the victim approached the police and filed a complaint. Following a preliminary inquiry, police registered a case under Sections 406 and 420 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and provisions of the Immigration Act. Police said they have started an investigation to examine the role of the firm and its operators, and are verifying documents, advertisements andfinancial transactions related to the case.
