Within hrs, court stays bail given to IYC chief
NEW DELHI, March 1 -- A Delhi court on Saturday stayed the bail orders of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Uday Bhanu Chib, the alleged mastermind of the protest at the AI Impact Summit venue in Delhi last week, hours after a magistrate court granted him relief saying the right to life and liberty is the "soul of the Indian Constitution".
Additional sessions judge Amit Bansal of Patiala House Courts on Saturday evening stayed the bail granted to Chib after the prosecution moved an application challenging the same, and listed the matter on March 6 for further proceedings. The official orders of the stay on the bail was not available immediately. Earlier in the day, Chib was produced before the duty magistrate of Patiala House Courts Vanshika Mehta, who granted him bail, observing that Delhi Police failed to specify the purpose of seeking further custody.
The investigating officer (IO) initially moved an application seeking three more days of police custody. The court said, "The IO has not been able to put forth any cogent reason as to why further police custody of Uday Bhanu is required.
