Chandigarh, Jan. 6 -- Ahead of the January 29 mayoral polls, the Congress on Monday announced that the party will support any political organisation or alliance that is capable of defeating the BJP. The decision was taken in the larger interest of Chandigarh and its residents, the party said after a meeting of Congress councillors at the residence of HS Lucky, president of the Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee. The meeting was held in the presence of MP Manish Tewari to deliberate upon the party's future course of action in the forthcoming mayoral elections. The party contested the last two mayoral polls and even the 2024 Lok Sabha election in alliance with its INDIA bloc partner AAP. While the two parties together wrested both the mayoral and Lok Sabha seats in 2024, they lost to the BJP in the 2025 mayoral poll.HTC...
