Mumbai, Feb. 16 -- In September 2023, Nepal's Dipendra Singh Airee set a world record. He took just nine deliveries to score the fastest half-century in international cricket, in an Asian Games match against Mongolia. On Sunday, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Airee scored another half-century, this time a fighting 58 off 47 deliveries. What it did was make him his country's highest run-scorer in the history of the T20 World Cup - with a total of 143. What it could not do however, was help Nepal get to a strong enough total in their Group C match against the West Indies. Asked to bat first, Nepal managed to score 133/8 in their 20 overs, before the 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cup winners chased it down to register a nine-wicket win. In the opening exchanges, Nepal's top order was left in tatters as the team stumbled to 22/4 at the end of six overs - the lowest powerplay total at the tournament so far. Then Airee started to get the scoreboard to tick. Initially he took a more patient approach to try and steady the ship. Despite this, he kept losing partners at regular intervals. Once Sompal Kami came to the crease with Nepal at 73/6, the duo put up a 54-run partnership. Airee was eventually dismissed in the 20th over while Kami stayed unbeaten on 26. Jason Holder, the player of the match, was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4/27, while Matthew Forde took 1/10 - his dismissal of Nepal captain Rohit Paudel turned out to be a wicket-maiden in the fourth over of the innings. In the second essay, the West Indies, having already beaten Scotland and England, played a steady innings to get over the line. Though Brandon King was dismissed on 22 off 17 balls, skipper Shai Hope (61 from 44) and Shimron Hetmyer (46 from 32) stitched together an unbeaten 91-run partnership to get to the target with 28 balls to spare. The West Indies next take on Italy in their last Group C match on February 19. Meanwhile Nepal, who lost to England and Italy prior to Sunday's defeat, will hope to end their campaign on a positive note against Scotland on Tuesday. Brief scores: Nepal 133/8 (Dipendra Singh Airee 58; Jason Holder 4/27). West Indies 134/1 (Shai Hope 61*, Shimron Hetmyer 46*). West Indies won by nine wickets. Sanjay Krishnamurthi's explosive unbeaten half-century followed by a disciplined bowling show powered USA to a crucial 31-run win over Namibia, in a must-win Group C clash here on Sunday, keeping their slim Super Eights hopes alive. With back-to-back victories, USA finished the group stage on four points and are on third place behind India and Pakistan as they remain in contention for a place in the next round from Group A, though they will depend on other results. Brief scores:USA 199/4 (Krishnamurthi 68*, Monank 52, Myburgh 2/22). Namibia 168/6 (Steenkamp 58, van Schalkwyk 2/30). USA won by 31 runs....
