When doubters tell her'No, you can't', she proves 'Yes, I can'
India, Nov. 9 -- India's 18-year-old para archer Sheetal Devi continues to redefine what's possible by breaking barriers and shattering limits with every arrow she releases. Born without arms, the reigning World Compound Champion became the first Indian para-athlete to be selected for the able-bodied team on Thursday. This has earned a place in the Indian junior squad for the upcoming Asia Cup Stage 3 in Jeddah.
"Two years ago, I finished sixth in one such selection trial, but I didn't let that break me. I failed then, but I told myself, 'Main improve karungi aur kabhi give up nahin karungi'," she tells us.
Competing against more than 60 able-bodied archers from across India, the Jammu and Kashmir-born archer finished third at the four-day national trials in Sonipat (Haryana) to seal her selection. "I have dreamt of representing my country in able-bodied tournaments ever since I first started archery," she gushes, adding, "But when it comes to my game plan, nothing has changed. It is still only about focusing on the target in front of me."
Already the youngest Indian Paralympic bronze medallist, Sheetal's journey has been a battle of doubts, criticism, and questions about her ability. But her resolve remains strong: "When they tell me 'you can't,' I love to show them that 'yes, I can.' Main apne shabdon se kabhi jawaab nahin deti, un saari baaton ka jawaab main apni performance aur results se deti hun."
Success, however, is not about proving others wrong, but staying grounded. Her next big dream? "For me, it's one step at a time. I have dreams but I want to take life as it comes. I believe my faith in myself and God will keep helping me achieve bigger things," she signs off....
