Chandigarh, May 2 -- The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation on Thursday launched a week-long cleanliness campaign focused on rainwater harvesting (RWH) structures across the city under the 'Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidaari' initiative. The campaign, which will run from May 1 to May 7, aims to enhance the efficiency of RWH systems and promote sustainable water management. Speaking on the occasion, mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla said, "Water conservation is not just a policy, it's a responsibility. It is a matter of life and the future of humanity. The initiative is focused on cleaning all rainwater harvesting structures citywide to ensure better water recharge and long-term sustainability." The MC also organised a public briefing session at Jal Shakti Kendra, Sector 37. The session, held under the 'Catch the Rain' campaign, educated residents and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) on the maintenance of RWH structures, the importance of water conservation and community's role in preserving this vital resource. Officials also conducted on-site inspections of RWH systems, including a structure at a maintenance booth in Sector 15. Cleanliness drives were also held at community centres and maintenance booth. MC commissioner Amit Kumar said that Chandigarh aims to become a model city in water conservation.
