Panchkula, Sept. 25 -- Moti Ram Arya Modern Public School organised an enriching webinar on "How to Take STEM to Classrooms". The distinguished resource person for the session was Subhash Lakhotia, scientist and professor from Banaras Hindu University. The session commenced with a thought-provoking question that set the tone for an engaging and insightful discussion. Lakhotia emphasised how Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) are not just individual disciplines, but interconnected fields that, when integrated, empower students to develop a logical, analytical, and scientific outlook. He highlighted the teacher's role in consciously nurturing curiosity, inquiry, and logical reasoning in young minds, thereby encouraging them to become critical thinkers and problem-solvers. Citing examples from everyday life, Lakhotia illustrated how even plants-often perceived as passive givers of food, oxygen, and resources-are in fact expert mathematicians and knowledge-holders. From their intricate symmetry to the mathematical patterns in leaves, flowers, and growth, nature itself is a living laboratory that can stimulate inquiry if presented meaningfully in classrooms. He urged teachers to connect such concepts with lessons to make learning inquisitive, exploratory, and experiential. Adding to the discourse, principal Ritu Mago stressed that this is the right time to implement Piaget's Cognitive Development Theory in schools. She reiterated the need to provide learners with the correct schema so that they can relate knowledge appropriately and build a robust educational foundation. Mago emphasised that effective STEM education must go beyond rote learning and move towards hands-on experiences, problem-based learning, and critical engagement with concepts. The webinar concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where teachers actively participated, reflecting a collective commitment to adopting innovative pedagogies. The session left the participants inspired to take forward the vision of STEM education by making classrooms hubs of curiosity, creativity, and scientific temper....
