Water-borne diseases rose sharply in India in last 5 years,
New Delhi, Feb. 4 -- India has recorded a sharp increase in water-borne diseases over the last five years, with case load of Hepatitis A, cholera, Leptospirosis and Typhoid witnessing multiple-fold jump, according to data shared by the Union health ministry in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
According to the data, complied from all states and UTs under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP/IHIP), total Hepatitis A cases surged 890% from 4,089 in 2021 to 40,464 in 2025, while cholera cases rose 421% from 217 to 1,131 in the same period.
Similarly, Leptospirosis cases jumped from 6,086 (in 2021) to 20,888 cases in 2025, a 243% surge, typhoid cases logged a 191% increase from 195,000 to 567,000 in the last five years.htc...
