VP hails PM over ties with world leaders
New Delhi, Sept. 23 -- Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, in his first public programme since assuming the post, on Monday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's diplomacy, highlighting his cordial relationships with world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese Premier Xi Jinping.
Radhakrishnan noted that Trump has described Modi as a "great friend" amid tensions over India's purchases of Russian energy, which the US cited as grounds to slap 25% punitive tariffs on imports from India - taking the total levy to 50%.
"Even as a 50% duty has been put on India by the US, Trump continues to say, 'Modi is my great friend.' Even in that situation, he has not said he is against Modi. Modi is a great friend of Putin. He is a great friend of Trump. At the same time, Xi Jinping, despite the differences of international politics, is a good friend of Modi. That's why he may turn the impossible into possible. And when there is a will in your heart to serve humanity without any expectation, then a way will come," Radhakrishnan said.
The Vice President made the remarks at an event in the nation's capital, releasing four books based on the PM's speeches on the theme of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas". His predecessors M Venkaiah Naidu and Jagdeep Dhankhar had also inaugurated books on the PM during their tenure. Radhakrishnan became the 15th Vice President of India after defeating Opposition candidate and former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy in the September 9 elections....
