Patna, Oct. 24 -- Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani (45) seems to have emerged as the new necessity for alliances in politically charged Bihar. The Bollywood technician-turned-politician, in his little over a decade-long political career, has emerged as a hard bargainer and has made his presence felt on the Bihar political scene. And it was quite natural for him to be elated on Thursday when the Opposition Grand Alliance, from which he had nearly walked off during seat-sharing negotiations, declared him as the bloc's deputy chief minister face. "I have been waiting for this moment for three-and-a-half long years," Sahani said. Sahani, who had initially announced that he would contest the November 2025 polls from Gaura Bauram seat, withdrew at the last moment and made his brother Sachin as the VIP's candidate. The VIP leader, who entered politics in 2014, was unsuccessful in his previous two electoral outings. In 2019, he contested the Lok Sabha polls on a VIP ticket from Khagaria, but lost to Lok Janshakti Party's (LJP) Mehboob Ali Kaiser. He next contested the assembly elections in 2020 from the Simri Bhaktiarpur constituency, where he lost to Rashtriya Janata Dal's (RJD) Yusuf Salahuddin. Sahani began his political journey with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before leaving them in 2015 after the party failed to deliver on the promise of his approving his community of Nishads under the Scheduled Caste (SC) category. In 2018, he formed the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), which won four seats during the 2020 elections. The VIP chief has large influence over the Nishad community, which features the Mallahs as a sub-caste. Known as the "Son of Mallah", Sahani appeals to broader Nishad grouping, which also includes sub-castes such as the Bind, Beldar and Kewat. Sahani is now bestowed with the responsibility of steering the alliance's boat with RJD's Tejashwi Yadav at the helm. "BJP ko jab tak hum todenge nahi, tab tak chhoddenge nahi (We will not let go until we break the BJP)."...
