Urdu rooted in region's history: NC defends Govt
Srinagar, June 14 -- A day after BJP leaders sought removal of Urdu as compulsory for naib tehsildar posts in J&K, the National Conference defended the government decision saying Urdu was rooted in the region's history, not in any political or sectarian agenda.
On Thursday, leader of Opposition in J&K assembly, Sunil Sharma along with UT BJP president Sat Sharma had a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and sought his intervention into the issue of naib tehsildar aspirants and requested him to make the working knowledge of Urdu language non-mandatory for naib tehsildar examination.
Recently the J&K government had made Urdu mandatory for the naib tehsildar examinations.
NC chief spokesman and legislator Tanvir Sadiq said that they believe that the place of Urdu in our revenue, judicial, and administrative system is rooted in history, not in any political or sectarian agenda....
