UP Agniveer injured in Kishtwar encounter
Jammu, Nov. 6 -- A soldier was injured during an encounter between security forces and a group of Pakistani terrorists has started at Chatroo area of Kishtwar district on Wednesday morning, said officials.
"Security forces and J&K Police had launched a joint operation based on specific intelligence inputs. During the operation, a contact was established with terrorists and a fierce exchange of fire ensued," said a senior police officer.
"Three terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammad are suspected to be hiding in Kalaban forest where an operation by army, SOG and CRPF is underway. In the initial gun fight, a soldier was injured. He was airlifted in a chopper to Command Hospital in Udhampur," he added.
The injured soldier has been identified as Agniveer Kapil Kumar, 22, of Fatehpur in Uttar Pardesh.
His condition is stated to be stable. Kishtwar district SSP Naresh Singh confirmed the development and said that the encounter started around 7.30am. The area has been cordoned off and the operation is still in progress.
Kalaban forest in Chatroo area is around 45 kms from Kishtwar district headquarters.
Army's White Knight Corps has also confirmed the development on X. "In an intelligence based operation, in concert with @jk_police, in early morning hours today, alert troops of #WhiteKnightCorps have established contact with terrorists in general area of Chhatru. Fire exchanged with terrorists. Operation is in progress," it read.
Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the area.
Meanwhile, security forces on Wednesday launched a search operation following suspicious movement in the border areas of Poonch district.
The operation was launched by the Special Operations Group (SOG), army and the CRPF following reports of movement of suspected persons in the Balakote-Mendhar border areas, they said. The forces are on high alert and locals have been urged to share any information about suspicious movements in their areas....
