Unmet demands: Power staff plan mass leave
Sangrur, July 17 -- Hundreds of power employees staged a protest in Sangrur on Wednesday, accusing the Punjab government and Powercom management of failing to fulfil promises made over 40 days ago. They warned of mass leave in August if their demands remain unmet.
The protest-organised by the PSEB Employees Joint Forum, Ekta Manch Punjab, and the Association of JEs-followed a June 2 meeting with power minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, where several commitments were made but not delivered.
Key demands include regularising temporary workers, ending the contract system, reducing duty hours from 12 to 8, reversing privatisation policies, filling vacant positions, offering better compensation to families of deceased workers, cashless treatment for injured, fair pay scales, improving worker safety, pension deductions, and addressing politically motivated transfers among others.htc...
