U.S. trade deal a betrayal of farmers, says Rahul
Ahmedabad/new delhi, Feb. 16 -- Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of spreading "lies" and "misinformation" about India's trade agreements with the United States, European Union, and the United Kingdom, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fully safeguarded the country's agriculture and dairy sectors.
Addressing a gathering in Gandhinagar after launching India's first Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)-based Public Distribution System (PDS), Shah termed as "laughable" the opposition Congress's allegations that trade agreements would harm Indian farmers. "The Opposition is misleading the country regarding the Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with the European Union and the UK, and the trade deal with America," Shah said.
"I feel like laughing when Congress's 'Shahzada' Rahul Gandhi stands in Parliament and talks about protecting farmers. The Congress has a long history of misleading the country and now they are spreading lies about trade deals."
Referring to the Congress's criticism that the agreements would destroy India's dairy sector, the home minister said Gandhi was spreading a lie that PM Modi has finished India's dairy sector by signing these deals.
"I want to assure the farmers, cattle-rearers and fishermen of this country that in every trade deal signed with the EU, England and America, Prime Minister Modi has safeguarded your interests completely. There is no need to worry," Shah said.
He said that the BJP-led Union government has expanded the dairy sector. "In all the agreements, full protection has been given to dairy (sector)," he said, and challenged the Congress leader to debate the issue publicly....
