Rudrapur, June 8 -- A sessions court in Champawat district sentenced a 30-year-old man to life imprisonment on Friday for killing his two-year-old step son in 2020. The presiding judge Anuj Kumar Sangal also levied a fine of Rs.1 lakh on the accused, said government counsel Vidyadhar Joshi. "A woman had filed a case at Tanakpur police station against a man who had killed her son by kicking him. Police lodged an FIR against the man and arrested him the next day," Joshi said. "Her child sustained severe injuries and succumbed to them on the way to the hospital. The next day, Shabana handed over a complaint against Naresh. Police lodged an FIR under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation)," he added. The woman, Shabana, had filed the complaint against the accused, Naresh, on August 30, 2020. The court order did not mention the last names of either the complainant or the accused. On August 29, 2020, she heard her younger son screaming and saw that Naresh was kicking him on his chest and stomach. Naresh was living with her while her husband Raju Mian was serving a jail term for molestation, Shabana said in her complaint.
