U'khand farmer's suicide: 26 booked for abetment, duping
Rudrapur/Haldwani, Jan. 13 -- At least 26 people, including six women, were booked for the alleged abetment to suicide and cheating that led to a 39-year-old farmer taking his life in a hotel room in Gaulapar of Nainital district on Sunday, police said.
The case was registered in ITI police station of Kashipur on Monday on the complaint of the deceased's brother, they added.
According to police, the farmer took the extreme step after allegedly after being duped of Rs.4 crore in a fake land deal.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP), US Nagar Manikant Mishra has also suspended two sub-inspectors, including the in-charge of ITI police station in Kashipur, for alleged negligence in the matter. In addition, the entire staff of Paiga police outpost - 10 policemen, including the in-charge - have also been attached to the district police lines.
According to police, in his complaint, the 25-year-old brother of the deceased farmer, a Kashipur resident, alleged that he and his brother had purchased seven acres of land from an individual, identified as, Balwant Singh and his brother Kulwant Singh alias Kala of Baksora Kunda village in Kashipur. Some days later, both informed the farmer brothers that they had sold the concerned land to property dealers Amarjit Singh, Ashish Chauhan alias Patwari and Kulwinder Singh, whose office is in Bazpur road. They advised them to meet the property dealers to settle the matter.
The complainant alleged that on this advice, he and his brother had purchased the 6.84-acre land for Rs.34 lakh per acre from the property dealers. When he and his brother asked the property dealers to get a registry of the land in their names, Balwant and Kala who were the original owners of the land, kept putting off the matter for a long time.
When both brothers met Balwant, Kala and property dealers to get registered the land, they paid no heed and made lame excuses. Fed up from their behaviour, they contacted a relative in a bid to get the matter settled.
The 25-year-old further said that the relative asked them to purchase the land of one Vimal Kumar, a resident of Bazpur road in lieu of Amarjit, Kala and Ashish Chauhan's land.
The complainant said then he and his brother deposited Rs.1.02 crore in the bank accounts of Amarjit, Kala and Chauhan and handed over Rs.2.80 crore to them as cash.
Despite depositing money for purchasing land and repeated requests, the trio neither registered the land in their name nor they returned the money. They kept putting off the case and grabbed the whole money. Due to their fraudulent behaviour, he and his brother suffered mental and physical tension following the fraud, the complainant alleged.
The brother added that his brother was quite upset with the fraud and took his life on Sunday. The ITI Police station has registered the FIR against the named persons under 108 and 318-4 of the BNS.
The 39-year-old farmer made a video narrating the land fraud worth Rs.4 crore, alleging the involvement of a land mafia in Kashipur. He shot himself in the hotel room in Gaulapur of Nainital....
