Rudrapur, Jan. 12 -- A 39-year-old farmer from Kashipur shot himself dead in a hotel room in Kathgodam early on Sunday, and in a video recorded before his death, he accused a few Kashipur locals of duping him of Rs.4 crore in a land deal and US Nagar police of colluding with the alleged fraudsters. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident and directed Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat to conduct the probe. Meanwhile, US Nagar superintendent of police Manikant Mishra denied the collusion charge, calling the deceased's allegations "baseless". "A few days ago, he approached the police station and repeated his threats, so the police registered his threat in the general diary of the police station." He said police had mediated the land dispute and logged the man's complaints in the station diary. Jagdish Chandra, superintendent of police (crime), Haldwani, said that the police rushed to the spot on Saturday after the farmer's wife alerted the guard. "Kathgodam police rushed to the spot and broke down the door of the room. The man had died by that time. Police recovered an illegal pistol from the room and took the body into possession for a postmortem. No complaint has been handed to the police till now." The farmer's wife and 12-year-old son suffered splinter injuries and received treatment at Haldwani government hospital, police said. The farmer filmed the video in front of his family, then shared it on social media. HT could not independently verify the authenticity of the video. "You'll see it [the video] after my death. People in Kashipur defrauded us of Rs.4 crore over a land deal - they showed us one plot but gave us another. We demand a CBI inquiry. I approached the US Nagar SSP and police, but got no help. Instead, they insulted me and colluded with the accused. After my death, sell my body parts and give the money to the police I begged for help," the farmer said in the video.
