Two killed, 3 injured in group clash over water channel in Muktsar
Bathinda, Feb. 8 -- Two men were killed and three others injured during a violent clash between two groups over an irrigation channel at Kothe Dashmesh Nagar in Muktsar on Friday night.
The deceased were identified as Nirmal Singh of Kotbhai village and Baljit Singh of Kothe Dashmesh Nagar, both aged between 50 and 55.
Launching a probe, police booked seven people under charges of murder and the Arms Act on Saturday, and rounded up the main accused, Jabarjang Singh, along with co-accused Lovepreet Singh and Harpreet Singh, confirmed Gidderbaha deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Arun Mundan.
"Three accused Rajwinder Singh, Darshan Singh and Jagsir Singh are under treatment at a hospital in Muktsar and will be taken into custody soon. Police teams are working to nab the seventh accused, Gurpreet Singh," added the DSP.
The conflict, rooted in an ongoing dispute over restoration of a water channel, reportedly turned fatal when an argument escalated into a physical confrontation involving lathis and agricultural implements. The victims, Nirmal and Baljit, suffered grievous injuries, leading to their death.
"As per statements, Jabarjang is the main accused, whereas his family members and relatives were also involved in the attack. Initial probe indicates that a firearm belonging to one of the deceased, Baljit Singh, was used after he was attacked. It is still a matter of investigation who used the weapon and whether anyone was hit by it," said the DSP....
