Toy train till Shimla to resume today
Dharamshala, June 13 -- After 14 days of halt at Tara Devi, the Shimla-Kalka toy train will resume its full service to Shimla from Friday, officials said.
The track was closed from May 30 to June 12 to renovate a bridge between Jutogh and Summerhill. During this time, trains operated till Tara Devi, about 7km from Shimla.
Ambala senior divisional commercial manager Naveen Kumar said that the trains will resume full service from Friday as the bridge replacement work (stage 1) has been completed.
The Shimla-Kalka railway line, which is a UNESCO world heritage site, had suffered severe damage near Summerhill in August 2023 after a massive landslide swept away a 50-metre bridge on the Summerhill-Jutogh section, leaving a portion of the track hanging.
The bridge was temporarily restored but it is now being permanently replaced.
Railway officials said that a two-day halt will be in place again for stage 2 repair work, most likely on June 27 and 28....
