Tipper driver run over by oil tanker in Mukerian
Hoshiarpur, Aug. 4 -- A tipper driver was killed and two injured after being hit by an oil tanker in Mukerian on Saturday night, police said. A group of mining mineral tipper drivers was holding a protest near Emma Mangat on the Jalandhar-Pathankot highway for the last three days against the current tax regime.
On Saturday night, as they were standing at the site, an oil tanker coming from the Pathankot side ran over three of them, one of whom died on the spot. He was identified as Lakhwinder Singh, 23, a resident of Umarpur Aulian village. Injured Lakhwinder Singh and Daljit Singh were admitted to Mukerian civil hospital.
Deputy superintendent of police Kulwinder Singh Virk said that the tanker driver had been arrested and a case registered against him.
The protesting tipper drivers rued that they had submitted a memorandum to the district administration three days ago and informed them about their protest, but no officials had come to meet them....
