India, May 6 -- T he Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET), in collaboration with The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, has launched the TIET-UQ Centre of Excellence in Data Science and AI at dsai.thapar.edu. The Centre aims to drive cutting-edge innovation across key sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, energy, cybersecurity and infrastructure. Inaugurated at TIET's Patiala campus by Board Chairman Rajiv Ranjan Vederah, the launch event was attended by senior leadership, including TIET Director Prof Padmakumar Nair and Dr Inderveer Chana, who will lead the Centre. The initiative seeks to position Punjab as a hub for responsible, human-centric AI, fostering cross-border collaboration between India and Australia. Bringing together interdisciplinary teams from both institutions, the Centre will actively engage with industry partners, startups and government bodies to ensure meaningful, real-world applications of research. Prof Tim Miller, UQ-TIET Chair in Data Science, said: "This Centre builds a global innovation ecosystem driven by ethical AI."
