Chandigarh, May 12 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for thunderstorm in the city on Tuesday. The city also witnessed a dust storm on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. Orange is the second highest of the four-colour warning system used by the IMD, asking people to be prepared. While no rain was recorded at the IMD observatory in Sector 39 through the day, only trace rain was recorded at the airport observatory with wind speeds going up to 50km/h. A Western Disturbance (WD) is active over the region, which is the reason behind the storms. While the system will be strong on Tuesday as well, it is likely to lose strength from Wednesday. Chances of light rain and thunderstorm may continue throughout the week till Friday. Despite the storm, the day remained sunny and maximum temperature rose from 35degC on Sunday to 36degC on Monday, still 1.5 degrees below normal. Minimum temperature dropped from 23.4degC on Sunday to 21.9degC on Monday, 1.9 degrees below normal. After the rain spell, sultry conditions are expected to make a come back with the temperature likely to hit 40degC by the end of this week. Over the next three days, the maximum temperature will remain between 36degC and 39degC while minimum will hover between 22degC and 23degC....
