Chandigarh, Dec. 18 -- A local court has awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) to three convicts in three separate Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act cases on Wednesday. Interestingly, this comes after all three arrests were made on the same day of August in 2019, all in the vicinity of each other in the area of the Sector-11 police station. Along with 10 years of RI, the accused were also fined Rs.1 lakh each under the NDPS Act. In the first case, Rajinder Singh, 32, of Sector 25 was arrested with 10 injections of buprenorphine near Gate Number 3 in Panjab University at around 8.30 pm. In the second case, Ajay Kumar, 19, of Sector 25 was arrested with 12 injections of buprenorphine near Ghumhar Colony in Sector 25 around 8.20 pm. In the third case, Parveen Kumar, 19, was arrested with 10 injections of buprenorphine near the Sector 24/25/37/38 roundabout. All arrests were made on the same day. While all three trials ran independently, the sentencing for all three cases was done on Wednesday....
