Mohali, Jan. 4 -- The toll in the January 29 road mishap case, where a Fortuner SUV allegedly crashed into a Hyundai i20 in Phase 8, Mohali, rose to two after another injured youth succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The victim has been identified as Abhishek alias Avi, an occupant of the Hyundai i20. He died at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, around 8.40 pm on January 2. Another occupant of the car, Sahibdeep Singh, 24, a resident of Khanna, had died at the spot. Two other occupants of the car had also sustained injuries and continue to remain under treatment.
As per the police, the Fortuner driver, later identified as Simranjeet Singh of Landran, was coming from the wrong side, which led to the crash. He had fled the spot without assisting the victims but was later traced and arrested under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving), 106(1) (rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide), 324(4) (mischief), 125(a)/125(b) (endangering human life or personal safety) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
His vehicle was also impounded. Investigating officer assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Ranjit Singh said the statements of witnesses and injured persons are being recorded....
