But behind every wagging tail and gentle purr lies a thoughtful process of matching, mentoring, and making sure both families and animals are truly ready for each other. From detailed adoption panels to quiet cafe corners where cats choose you, India's adoption ecosystem is built on patience, compassion, and a deep belief that the right home can change an animal's world - and yours - forever.
The adoption process often involves a thorough screening, including interviews with an adoption panel and meetings with pet behaviourists. Taronish Bulsara, co-founder of World For All Animal Care and Adoptions, says, "An adopter, who must be adult, should come in for the event with their family members. They also need to bring their identity and address proof," adding, "A detailed interview is conducted with the adoption panel. They meet the behaviourists and the vet, and are asked to fill detailed pet adoption commitment forms. Post that, a house check is conducted for each animal's home by the World For All team or the foster. If we find everything okay, we confirm the adoption. We, along with the foster or rescuer, stay in touch with the family until the point of the animal's steriliation."
Pooja Iyer, Brand Communications Associate at Cat Cafe Studio, also highlights the lighter and more joyful side of adoption. She says, "We share the pets' rescue journeys online, covering their silly quirks and everyday magic, so that people fall in love even before paying a visit. At the cafe, we encourage slow visits: sit with a book, let a shy cat sniff your shoe, play with the naughty one who keeps stealing toys. That is usually when the 'this is my cat' moment happens."...
