Tension erupts in Haldwani, two FIRs lodged
Haldwani/Dehradun, Nov. 18 -- Communal tension erupted in Haldwani in Nainital district after part of a carcass was found near a temple on Sunday evening, police said.
The body part, as per police officers, was discovered near Ujaleshwar Mahadev temple and the situation escalated quickly as members of Hindu outfits gathered in large numbers, vandalised shops, vehicles, pelted stones, and assaulted people in the vicinity. The police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd and has deployed additional police and paramilitary forces to prevent other incidents. The police also registered two FIRs at Banbhoolpura police station -- one for the recovery of the parts of the animal and another for violence. Prima facie, the police said they have found that the animal part wasn't thrown deliberately near the temple, since it can be seen in the CCTV footage that it was brought to the place by a dog in its mouth.
Police and forensic experts have collected samples from the site and sent them for examination."A police official, on condition of anonymity, said, "It has come to light that the protestors deliberately targeted the shops and vehicles owned by Muslims."...
