Temp climbs to 34.8degC as sun returns, dry weekend to follow
Chandigarh, July 24 -- After two days of cloud cover and rain, the sun made a brief comeback on Wednesday, causing the maximum temperature to rise by five notches, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As the sun came out on Wednesday afternoon, the maximum temperature climbed from 29.1degC on Tuesday to 34.8degC, 1 degree above normal. The minimum temperature also increased from 24.5degC on Tuesday to 25.1degC on Wednesday, but still 1.7 degrees below normal.
As per IMD officials, from Thursday, chances of rain will recede until the weekend, before rainy weather returns next week.
IMD Chandigarh director Surender Paul said the monsoon system had shifted away from the region temporarily. Thus, chances of rain will remain low. "But rain activity is likely to pick up again from Monday onwards. There will be at least one more spell of rain before the month gets over," he said.
This monsoon till now, 399.5 mm rain has been recorded in the city, 13.1% above normal for the corresponding period.
Over the next three days, the maximum temperature will remain between 31degC and 33degC, and the minimum temperature between 26degC and 27degC.
The recent spell of rains, apart from cooler temperatures, has led to cleaner air as well. At the Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Station in Sector 22, the Air Quality Index at 8 pm on Wednesday was 67. It was 79 at Sector 25 and 92 at Sector 53, all falling in the "satisfactory category". When between 51-100, the Air Quality Index can still cause minor breathing discomfort to sensitive people....
