Mohali, Aug. 28 -- A 17-year-old girl allegedly ended her life by hanging herself at Vishranti Society in the Zirakpur police station area on Tuesday night. According to police officials the deceased was a native of Uttarakhand. Police said the deceased had been staying with her elder sister in Zirakpur since July 4. Around 9.30 pm on Tuesday, she locked herself inside her room and hanged herself. The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when her sister found her hanging and immediately informed the police. The body was shifted to Dera Bassi civil hospital for post-mortem. The deceased's sister who has been residing in Zirakpur after her marriage in Jind, Haryana, in her police complaint alleged that her sister had been under severe mental stress due to harassment by a youth named Manish, also from Uttarakhand. She told police that Manish constantly pressured her to remain in touch with him. "He would remain quiet when she spoke to him, but after she stopped talking, he circulated their photographs to family members, which left her disturbed," her sister alleged in her statement. Investigating officer assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Labh Singh said that the statement of the deceased's sister has been recorded. "An first information Rireport (FIR) has been registered against the accused Manish under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and further investigation is underway," he added....
