Tara acquitted in UAPA case
	
		
				Jalandhar, Oct. 29 -- Jagtar Singh Tara, who is serving life term for assassination of then Punjab chief minister Beant Singh in 1995, has been acquitted in connection with another case registered 15 years ago under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Arms Act.
After the court proceedings, Tara's counsel SKS Hundal told the reporters that the prosecution failed to prove the charges against him so he was acquitted due to lack of evidence by the court of additional district and sessions.
Tara appeared before the court through video-conferencing.
The case was registered on September 28, 2009, at the Bhogpur police station in Jalandhar under Sections 17 (raising funds for a terrorist act), 18 (conspiracy, attempt or incitement of a terrorist act) and 20 (member of terrorist group) of the UAPA and other sections under the Arms Act....
