Amritsar, May 29 -- The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Wednesday termed the resolution passed by the Takht Patna Sahib Management Committee, opposing the decision of Akal Takht Sahib, as unprincipled. In a statement, SGPC's senior vice president Raghujit Singh Virk, member Gurcharan Singh Grewal and Gurbachan Singh Karmuwala stated that according to the Sikh rehat maryada, Akal Takht is the supreme authority among the five Takhts. They said SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami has already decided to send a delegation to discuss with the Takht Sri Patna Sahib Management Committee regarding its recent decisions. They said the Tuesday's resolution passed by the Sri Patna Sahib Committee supporting the decision of Panj Pyaras of Takht Patna Sahib is a challenge to the authority of Akal Takht Sahib. A row had erupted when Akal Takht pointed to defiance of its 2022 decree which had ordered an assessment of Patna Sahib jathedar Baldev Singh's Gurbani recitation skills and the transfer of granthi Gurdial Singh. On May 21, the Panj Pyaras of Takht Patna Sahib declared acting Akal Takht jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj and Takht Damdama Sahib head Tek Singh Dhanaula "tankhaiya" (guilty of religious misconduct) for actions that allegedly hurt the sanctity of the Takht.
