Chandigarh, Oct. 17 -- Anandpur Sahib MP Malvinder Singh Kang on Thursday urged the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilisers to take up with the central government the issue of forced bundling of unnecessary boosters with essential fertilisers sold to farmers. In a letter to the standing committee's chairman, Kang wrote that the panel should recommend to the Union ministry of chemicals and fertilisers the formulation of an ironclad nationwide framework to dismantle this exploitative practice. This framework should include unequivocal prohibitions on forced bundling, rigorous digital surveillance of transactions, compulsory provision of unbundled subsidized fertilisers, and stringent penalties for offenders ranging from license suspensions to outright blacklisting, he said. The Lok Sabha MP pointed out that in Roopnagar, distributors were ruthlessly compelling farmers to purchase "unnecessary boosters" with subsidised Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) bags priced at Rs 1,350. He said these coerced add-ons such as Calcium Nitrate, Polyhalite and Bio Potash were neither mandated nor universally essential, yet were being foisted upon farmers under duress.
