Mohali, Feb. 22 -- Police have busted an online cricket betting racket operating from a flat in Zirakpur, with the arrest of threepeople. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by assistant sub-inspector Gurnam Singh conducted a raid at the flat around 2.30 am on Friday. There, the police team found three men running an online betting set-up for the ongoing T20 World Cup matches, and arrested them. The accused were identified as Mohammad Shah Alam, Mohammad Shah Nawaz and Karan Gaurav, all residents of Bihar. Investigators said the accused were operating through digital platforms and bank transactions to facilitate betting on cricket matches. The trio allegedly contacted people and persuaded them to place bets by promising lucrative returns. They reportedly collected money through bank transfers and used online applications to conduct the betting transactions, thereby dishonestly inducing people to transfer funds, said police.
