Ambala Cantt, May 8 -- Summer Week was celebrated at The SD Vidya School. The initiative was part of the school's integrated and experiential ;earning programme, offering students opportunities to enhance not only their culinary skills but also their financial and entrepreneurial acumen. Throughout the week, students from the food production department managed their own summer canteen, providing a variety of refreshing beverages to teachers and students. This real-life simulation enabled them to apply their learning in a practical setting-from recipe planning to account management-all while encouraging hydration and healthy choices. A highlight of the week was the summer beverages competition, which invited participation from parent-child duos and teachers. Participants presented array of drinks-from fruit punches and smoothies to inventive takes on traditional coolers. The drinks were judged by Romit Khanna, HOD at the Ambala Institute of Hotel Management, and Davinder Arora, marketing manager and career counselor at the same institute. Judging criteria included taste, presentation, creativity, and nutritional value. In the parent child duo ,Rakhi Singhal, M/o Kamya Singhal bagged the first prize. Preeti Sharma M/o Abhinandan Sharma got the second prize and Ruchika Walia,M/o Devashish walked away with the third prize. Consolation prize was won by Mitual Jain, M/o Yuvansh Jain. In the teachers' category, Bharti Sehgal won the first prize, Sushma Madaan,the second prize and Anshulla the third prize. Winners received prizes and certificates of appreciation. Judges were presented tokens of gratitude . The summer week concluded on a thoughtful note with a visit to an Old Age Home by the NSS volunteers of the school. The students interacted warmly with the elderly residents, shared tips on staying safe during heat waves, and donated essential items along with refreshing summer beverages. Director principal, Neelinderjeet Kaur Sandhu, appreciated the creativity, dedication, and enthusiasm of the students, parents, and teachers.
