Bathinda, May 4 -- Police have arrested a man for allegedly raping his 12-year-old step-granddaughter. Bathinda senior superintendent of police (SSP) Jyoti Yadav Bains said the matter came to fore after the child alerted her grandmother about the sexual assault. She further revealed that he sexually abused her two years ago as well. The child's mother further alleged that her stepfather used to force her daughter to consume nerve pain capsules, which drug dependents commonly abuse. Meanwhile, a city-based social organisation released a video of the child's mother, without disclosing her identity, in which she alleged harassment and a delay by the police in registering a case. The SSP denied any delay in registering the case. "A prompt action was initiated when they approached the police. An FIR was registered and the accused was immediately arrested," added the SSP. The accused was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was produced before a court and sent to judicial custody. htc...
