Sri Ganganagar logged highest temp in 91 years
Jaipur/Bharatpur, June 15 -- Sri Ganganagar reported the highest temperature of over 49 degrees Celsius (degC) for consecutive two days, the highest temperature recorded in the past 91 years, IMD officials familiar of the matter said on Saturday .
"On June 14, 1934, Sri Ganganagar was the hottest at 50degC. On both Friday and Saturday, the district remained the hottest in the state with 49.4degC, which is the first time in the past 91 years," said IMD director in Jaipur region Radhe Shyam Sharma.
According to the IMD's data, Churu recorded the second highest temperature in the state on Saturday with 47.6degC, followed by Jaisalmer at 46.9degC, Bikaner at 46.4degC, and Barmer at 46.2degC.
"In many places in both eastern and western Rajasthan, hot to extremely hot night have been reported on Friday. Meanwhile, Udaipur, Kota, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Bharatpur divisions have also recorded light to moderate rains along with thunderstorm. Some places in Udaipur also had heavy rains," the IMD statement read. IMD predicted that such rains will continue across those divisions till June 20 which may also reduce the temperature by 3degC to 4degC in those areas.
Meanwhile, four including two children were sustained burns due to lightning during sudden weather disturbances on Friday evening in Dholpur, officials said.
The incident took place in isolated parts of the district. Two children Anshu Kushwaha and his brother, Aryan Kushwaha, both residents of Tasimo village under Sempau tehsil, were in the forest with their goats during the dust storm and were struck by lightning, they added.
Family members rushed them to Sempau hospital where doctors discharged them after treatment, officials said.
"Two children, accompanied by their grandfather, were in the forest where their goats were grazing," said an official on condition of anonymity.
Another victim, Rajendra Sharma, 70, a resident of Kunkuta village also sustained burns, officials said.
Similarly, one man, Bablu Lodha, 25, from Baseri tehsil also received injuries and was discharged from hospital after treatment, they added.
Dholpur district collector Srinidhi BT said that no casualty was reported during the thunder storm. The dust storm with light rain was reported in eastern Rajasthan where electric poles and trees were damaged. The power supply in some rural areas was interrupted, officials said....
