Sports bill to usher in transparency, says Sandhu
Chandigarh, Aug. 13 -- Rajya Sabha member Satnam Singh Sandhu on Tuesday hailed the National Sports Governance Bill, calling it the "biggest reform" in the sporting history of the country.
Participating in a discussion on the bill when it was presented in Rajya Sabha, he stated that this bill would be instrumental in realising three dreams of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including hosting of Olympic Games 2036, transforming India into top five sporting nations of the world and women-led sports (equal opportunity in sports management) in India.
Sandhu said the prolonged wait of over 50 years ended as after the draft of the bill was first presented in Parliament in 1975, the bill has finally been passed in Lok Sabha now.
"The legislation will give impetus to the capacity building measures in sporting arenas in the country. It has provisions for a National Sports Board to ensure accountability, and it required All National Sports Federations to get NSB's recognition for access to central government funding," he added....
