BETTIAH, Dec. 1 -- At least five people died and eight others were injured after a speeding truck rammed into six motorbikes and an e-rickshaw in Bihar's East Champaran district on Sunday, police said. Deputy superintendent of police (Sadar 1) Dilip Kumar said the accident took place at Dipau Mor on NH -27, when "a speeding truck entered the service lane and rammed into several vehicles waiting to cross the road". "Prima facie, it appears that the truck driver dozed off at the wheel. A search operation has been launched to nab him," he added. Confirming five deaths, SHO Pratyush Kumar Vicky all five bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination; and the eight people injured have been admitted to Sadar hospital at Motihari. CM Nitish Kumar has expressed grief over the incident. Six people, including five members of a family, were killed and five others were seriously injured on Sunday when a a tempo carrying them was hit by a Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport (UPSRTC) bus in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh, police said. According to police, the accident took place around 3.15 pm at Zero Point near Rafatpur underpass when the victims were returning from a wedding.
