spat over water splashing on neighbour's parked scooter turns violent
Mohali, April 2 -- An old dispute over water splashing on a neighbour's scooter turned violent in Lohgarh, Zirakpur, on Saturday night when a group of men attacked a taxi driver and his family.
Complainant Manoj Kumar, a taxi driver, told police that his neighbour Sukhdev Singh and his wife, Suman, instigated the assault. Manoj said they had a past dispute with the couple after Sukhdev accidentally splashed water on his father's Honda Activa scooter while washing his car.
On Saturday evening, Sukhdev was arguing with another neighbour, Raj Kumar. Manoj said he intervened and pacified the situation.
Later, around 10.15 pm, Suman allegedly signalled toward his and Raj Kumar's houses, directing 6-7 men waiting in a white car, bearing number PB-01C-8679.
Manoj alleged that following Suman's directions, the men got out carrying wooden sticks and iron rods.
They dragged him into the street, and attacked him on his shoulders, hands and legs. When his daughters and his sister-in-law Kanchan rushed to his rescue, they were pushed back. He further alleged that two assailants slammed the main gate into Kanchan's stomach, leaving her injured.
As neighbours heard the ruckus and began gathering, the accused fled in the car. Manoj and Kanchan were taken to the Dhakoli civil hospital for treatment, said police.
Acting on Manoj's complaint and medical reports, police booked Sukhdev and his wife and the unidentified assailants under Sections 126 (2) (wrongful restraint), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 190 (unlawful assembly) and 191(3) (rioting) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita....
