Soldier, BSF trooper injured in shelling succumb, toll 25
Jammu, May 12 -- A soldier and a Border Security Force (BSF) trooper succumbed to their injuries sustained during Pakistan shelling along the International Border (IB) in RS Pura sector, officials said on Sunday. With this, the toll in Poonch-Rajouri firing since Wednesday has mounted to 25. Rifleman Sunil Kumar, a resident of Trewa village in Arnia sector, was deployed in RS Pura sector where he sacrificed his life in the line of duty, said a defence official. A pall of gloom descended at his native village as family, relatives and friends bid farewell to the braveheart, who was cremated with full military honours on Sunday, he added.
Jammu & Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha paid homage to Kumar and laid a wreath. "Paid tributes to the Army Braveheart Rfn Sunil Kumar, who laid down his life in the line of duty for the Nation. India will never forget his selfless service and supreme sacrifice," he said in a post on X.
The BSF said Constable Deepak Chimngakham had sustained grievous injuries during cross-border firing in RS Pura area, Jammu district, on May 10. "He attained martyrdom on May 11. BSF director general and all ranks express their deepest condolences to his family," said BSF in a social media post.
Eight troopers of the BSF's 7th Battalion were injured in Saturday's shelling. Later, sub-inspector Mohammed Imteyaz succumbed to his injuries. A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the BSF's frontier headquarters in Jammu. HTC...
