India, Nov. 27 -- A ctor Shilpa Shetty Kundra is the latest public figure to approach the High Court seeking protection of her personality rights, aiming to safeguard her identity from unauthorised use. HT City exclusively learnt that the actor has filed a suit in the Bombay High Court requesting legal protection of her personality. The suit names several websites that allegedly used her photographs without permission to promote various products and services. It also highlights the circulation of morphed images and videos. There are 27 identified defendants, while hundreds of unknown ones have been included under the "John Doe" category. Advocate Sana Raees Khan, who is representing Shilpa, tells us, "Ms. Shilpa Shetty has built her reputation over decades of work and no entity can appropriate her name or likeness without consent. The unauthorised commercial exploitation of her identity is an outright assault on her dignity and hard earned reputation. No individual or platform has the right to exploit her reputation for unlawful commercial gain and we will ensure strict enforcement of her personality rights." The number of public figures seeking personality protection has been steadily rising of late. Apart from Shilpa, several others - including actors Jackie Shroff, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, and Akshay Kumar; playback singer Kumar Sanu; and spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar - have also approached the courts for the same....
