Separation from sons, grandkids grave injustice: deportee's Kin
Amritsar, Sept. 27 -- The deportation of 73-year-old Harjit Kaur, who was among 132 Indians sent by the United States, is a "grave injustice" but it is a matter of relief that she has returned safely, her family said on Friday. Her brother lambasted the Donald Trump administration for separating her from her sons and grandchildren, and asserted that the family would take care of her.
Harjeet Kaur is the daughter of a late revenue official (patwari) of Pannagota village near Patti in Tarn Taran district. She was married to Sukhwinder Singh of Mari Kamboke village near Bhikhiwind, who served in the Indian Air Force (IAF), according to family sources.
She moved to the US around 1990-91 along with her family. Her husband died a few years ago. Harjeet Kaur fought a legal battle for nearly 13 years to obtain US citizenship.
Her brother Kulwant Singh from Pangota village said, "No doubt her deportation is unfortunate and an injustice, but this is a matter of relief for our family that she has returned to India safely. We shall take care of her."
"My sister kept on fulfilling all the conditions of the US government. She appeared in court hearings. We don't know why she was deported," he said.
Presently, she is staying with her sister in Mohali as she is not well. After getting well, she will reach her parental village....
