Mohali/Panchkula, Aug. 14 -- Security has been beefed in the tricity ahead of Independence Day. In Mohali, a full-scale bomb squad mock drill was conducted at Mohali Walk, Phase 8, on Wednesday. The exercise took place under the direct supervision of superintendent of police (SP, City) Srivennela, and deputy superintendent of police (DSP, City 2) Harsimran Singh Bal. Trained bomb disposal personnel arrived at the site equipped with advanced scanners, detectors, and other specialised gear. They carried out systematic sweeps of the area to detect and neutralise potential threats. Officers said the mock drill replicated real-life emergency conditions to test response time, coordination, and adherence to standard operating procedures. Authorities emphasised that the operation was part of a wider safety plan designed to prevent accidents or injuries during Independence Day celebrations. "Every venue will undergo thorough checks, and security teams have been briefed to leave nothing to chance," said DSP Harsimran Bal. In Panchkula, police teams are on high alert and personnel have been deployed at key locations, including major intersections, crowded markets, hotels, bus stops, and public places.
