Patiala, June 7 -- The mothers of the seven school children, who were killed in a road crash last month, on Friday held a protest over an alleged lackadaisical probe being conducted into the incident. As a mark of protest, the mothers of the deceased children offered garlands to Patiala deputy commissioner Preeti Yadav when she arrived to hold talks with them. The kin of the deceased are demanding a speedy probe and arrest of the owner of the tipper that had crashed into the vehicle carrying school children. The driver of the tipper truck has already been arrested. The incident occurred on theSamana-Patiala road on May 8 when the vehicle (Toyota Innova), ferrying 12 students back from the local Bhupindra International School collided with a tipper. The DC expressed solidarity with the families affected by the accident and said: "I am a mother myself and understand the pain of losing a child. Since the day of the accident, I have stood with the families in their grief." She added that CM Bhagwant Singh Mann has issued clear instructions for a time-bound, transparent, and impartial investigation into the matter, ensuring that those responsible would not escape the law and will face the strictest punishment. Highlighting immediate steps taken to prevent such incidents in the future, the DC said, "A ban has been imposed on the movement of tippers during school hours on Samana Road and administration has directed strict enforcement of the School Safe Vahan Policy. Plans are being made for identifying and correcting black spots and school zones, and heavy vehicles are being challaned as part of an ongoing drive."...
