SC stays trial against BSY in '24 Pocso case
New Delhi, Dec. 3 -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the trial against former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa in a case where he is accused of sexually assaulting a girl last year.
The four-time chief minister and senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had approached the top court against a recent Karnataka high court order refusing to quash the trial court proceedings against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
A bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and justice Joymalya Bagchi said, "Issue notice for the limited purpose as to why the case may not be remanded afresh to the high court in the light of the remedy granted to the petitioner by February 7, 2025 order of the high court." Posting the matter next month, the order further said, "Meanwhile, the trial proceedings shall remain stayed." On March 3, 2024, a Pocso case was registered against BS Yediyurappa at the Sadashivnagar Police Station on charges of sexual harassment of a minor.
