Jalandhar, Nov. 18 -- Five youths suffered bullet injuries after three car-borne miscreants opened fire on them in Banga, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, on Monday. The injured have been identified as Harpreet Singh alias Honey Bal, Mandeep Singh, Rimple, Sujal and Sahil, all in their 20s. The incident occurred around 3:30 pm when three youths travelling in a Hyundai i20 intercepted a Mahindra Scorpio and fired indiscriminately. Eyewitnesses told police that over 40 shots were fired, piercing multiple parts of the SUV and leaving the occupants seriously injured. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Mehtab Singh said senior officers rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. "The injured were first taken to a local hospital, from where they were referred to a private hospital in Ludhiana. Preliminary inquiry suggests the accused had an old rivalry with the victims," he said. Police are examining CCTV footage from the area. "Based on initial investigation, two accused have been identified," the SSP added.
