Sahney unveils de-watering system for flood-hit fields
Amritsar, Oct. 20 -- In a major relief measure for flood-hit farmers, Rajya Sabha member Vikramjit Sahney on Sunday inaugurated a de-watering facility at Jattan village in Ramdas block to drain stagnant water from over 150 acres of submerged farmland.
Supported by a 4-km pipeline network, the project has been initiated by his NGO, Sun Foundation, to help farmers resume cultivation and restore soil health. To further assist affected families, Sahney distributed rehabilitation kits containing beds, mattresses, kitchen sets, furniture, ration supplies and a fogging machine.
On the same day, Sahney also made a strong appeal for the early release of Sikh prisoners, urging the Delhi government to immediately convene a meeting of the Sentence Review Board (SRB) in light of the Supreme Court's October 15 order.
Sahney drew particular attention to the case of Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar, imprisoned since 1993, adding that he had completed over three decades in jail and deserved a fair review as per SC directions.
