Chandigarh, April 29 -- The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday said it would stage statewide protests on Thursday against the power cuts. In a statement issued here, senior SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema stated, "The decision was taken by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal in view of the rapidly worsening power situation, forcing people across the state to endure sleepless nights amid continuous outages." Cheema said SAD leaders and workers from every assembly constituency would stage protests at offices of deputy commissioners, sub-divisional magistrates and Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, demanding uninterrupted power supply. "The crippling power cuts are not accidental. They are the result of poor power planning and sheer administrative incompetence. Instead of addressing this crisis, the government remains preoccupied with managing internal issues amid large-scale defections of its MPs and leaders," he added.htc...
